FAQ

Questions, answered.

What is the macOS notch?
The macOS notch is the small cutout at the top centre of MacBook Pro 14" / 16" (2021 onwards) and MacBook Air 13" / 15" M2 and later. It hosts the FaceTime camera and sits inside the menu bar, which means most of the time it's wasted vertical pixels. Apps like NotchNest reclaim that area: hover the notch and it expands into a glassy panel of widgets — calendar, clipboard, notes, music, AirDrop. Same hardware, far more useful. What is the macOS notch?
Does NotchNest work on MacBooks without a notch?
Yes. On notchless Macs — MacBook Air M1, older MacBook Pros, Mac mini, iMac, Mac Studio — NotchNest renders as a slim drop-down panel anchored to the top centre of your display. Every widget works exactly the same: AI clipboard, calendar, Pomodoro, Quick Notes, music controls, AirDrop, File-Tray. You're not buying a notch decoration; you're buying a productivity hub. How to use the MacBook notch
Is NotchNest free?
Yes. NotchNest is free to download from the Mac App Store. There's no trial, no demo lock-out — the core widgets (calendar, clipboard, notes, Pomodoro, music, AirDrop, mirror, bookmarks) are all included. Optional AI features run on-device using Apple Intelligence, so there's no subscription server cost passed on to you. If you'd like to support development, leave a 5-star review on the Mac App Store.
Does NotchNest drain battery?
No measurable impact in normal use. NotchNest is a native SwiftUI app optimised for Apple Silicon — it sleeps when the notch panel is closed and wakes only on hover or hotkey. AI features use Apple Intelligence's on-device model, which is energy-tuned by macOS. If you're concerned, disable the widgets you don't use in Settings; each toggle is independent. Power consumption typically reads "Low" in Activity Monitor.
Is NotchNest safe and sandboxed?
Yes. NotchNest ships exclusively through the Mac App Store, which means it's notarized, code-signed by Apple, and runs inside the App Sandbox. It cannot access files outside the directories you explicitly grant. Calendar, Notes, Music and AirDrop use Apple's official entitlements. Nothing is uploaded — clipboard history, notes, briefings all stay on your Mac. Read the full privacy policy.
How is NotchNest different from Boring Notch, NotchDrop and Alcove?
Boring Notch, NotchDrop and Alcove are excellent — they each focus on one or two things (media controls, AirDrop, animation). NotchNest bundles ten tools in one notch: AI clipboard, calendar with AI briefings, Quick Notes with AI, Pomodoro, music control, AirDrop, File-Tray, camera mirror, bookmarks, and an Infinity Run game. One install, one menu bar slot, ten daily wins. NotchNest vs Boring Notch vs NotchDrop
Will NotchNest work on macOS Sonoma, Sequoia and Tahoe?
NotchNest requires macOS 14 (Sonoma) or later. It's fully supported on Sonoma, Sequoia (macOS 15) and Tahoe (macOS 26), including the Liquid Glass design language. AI clipboard, calendar briefings and Quick Notes refinement require Apple Intelligence, which means a Mac with Apple Silicon (M1 or later) on a Sequoia-or-newer build. Everything else runs fine on any Sonoma Mac.
Can I customise what the notch shows?
Yes. The Settings panel lets you toggle every widget independently, reorder them, set hover-vs-click triggers, pick a hotkey, and choose between expanded and minimised idle states. You can pin bookmarks, clipboard items and Quick Notes for one-tap access, and configure the Pomodoro intervals to your own work pattern. Everything's stored locally — no account, no cloud config.
